The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is an organization with a simple yet significant mission: to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives. Contrast & Co. has partnered with the Foundation each of the past few years to craft its annual report. This critical resource is more than a summary or a recap. It’s a reflection. It’s a celebration. And it’s a roadmap for the future. So when the Foundation approached us about developing the 2021 Annual Report, we gladly rose to the occasion. We built the experience around a core visual concept and theme—but the depth and breadth of the resource carry well beyond tangible creative signals to true impact.

What is ICIMOD?
Among the world’s most important environmental resources, the HKH—Hindu Kush Himalayas—sits at the peak. Home to unimaginable beauty and biodiversity, the HKH is a microcosm of the world around us and the source of clean drinking water for over 1 billion people. Despite its global significance, the HKH remains one of the most neglected regions on the planet. The forces of climate change and globalization are wreaking havoc on this fragile asset—and the beat of this place reverberates across the globe. This is why ICIMOD exists. This Nepal-based research and development organization is leading the global effort to protect the HKH and the people, resources, and culture that define it. Before a brand is a brand, it is an idea and the set of beliefs that inspired it. So we set out to develop that idea. We looked at the competitive landscape. Surveyed the stakeholders. Sought out the soul. And we got to the heart of what makes ICIMOD—and the HKH—so transformational. That single defining idea: The pulse of the planet.

When she ascends.
Throughout history, women in leadership have faced unique barriers far more nuanced than those of their male counterparts. And perhaps nowhere is that disparity more reflected than in politics. Enter The Ascend Fund. A collaborative fund powered by Panorama Global, The Ascend Fund pools philanthropic capital and makes mission-driven investments in nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations that break down the barriers preventing women from running for office… and winning. But what’s even more powerful than the capabilities women bring to politics when elected—more bills introduced, more policies enacted, more bipartisan coalition— is the very reason they run. Statistics show more women enter politics because they identify a problem in their community and want to find a solution. And The Ascend Fund seeks to help them succeed. So this is where we focused. Starting with a prospectus for prospective investors and stretching from email marketing to core business materials and beyond, we built a visual foundation to serve The Ascend Fund not only through the present election cycle, but beyond it to the moment of parity.

Creating Community
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is an organization on a mission to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives. We’ve partnered with the Foundation each of the past few years to craft its annual report—and when they reached out with the request to help them streamline and optimize the visual system for their peer-to-peer events, we were absolutely thrilled. With 70+ chapters across the country and hundreds of events annually spanning fundraising, community building, and awareness building efforts, this is a community with a voice. So we gave that voice a consistent, cohesive, and compelling visual look. Now, they’re equipped to cultivate an invaluable national presence—and, above all, to find a cure.

So where does Contrast & Co. come in? We partnered with Strathmore to develop a rallying cry and campaign strategy, anchored around a single unifying idea: The Arts Are Ours. Strathmore is committed to being the bridge to a more conscious, connected, arts-infused world—a world where we all belong. So we crafted a messaging strategy and campaign to reinforce this conviction, built upon the premise that the arts are for all of us. They’re ours to enjoy. Ours to share. Ours to cherish. Welcome to Strathmore. The arts are ours.

So we crafted a messaging strategy and campaign to reinforce this conviction, built upon one core principle: Maryland Hall isn’t merely a venue. It’s a home. A home for creativity and community.
